Members of the Ukrainian Thermal Energy Cluster took part in the panel discussion “Decentralization of Heat Supply: Technologies and Practical Solutions” held as part of the Autonomy:Expo exhibition.
The discussion focused on the barriers hindering the development of the heat supply market and thermal equipment manufacturing, the need to introduce market-based heat tariffs, attract investment to the sector, and modernize urban heat supply systems.
The panel included:
- Anatolii Korzh, Brovary Boiler Equipment Plant Ardens;
- Andrii Hevko, Vice President of the Ukrainian Thermal Energy Cluster;
- Andrii Artazey, ATON;
- Dmytro Novosad, EUROTECHENERGO;
- Taras Boriak, UKRAVTONOMGAZ;
- Pavlo Kozyrev, Head of the Association of Small Cities of Ukraine and moderator of the discussion.
One of the key questions was what heat supply model should be chosen for a particular city.
As Dmytro Novosad noted, the Cluster’s position is not to oppose centralized and decentralized heating:
“We do not advocate for either decentralization or centralized heating. We need to add one more parameter: system resilience.”
This is why each city should develop its own heat supply strategy, taking into account its existing infrastructure, available technologies, and the needs of the local community.
A resilient heat supply system is not based on a single technology. It is the right combination of solutions for a specific city.
